Yesterday in the later morning I spent about an hour sitting outside with my camera to find a surprising array of birds.

Yesterday was the firs ever sighting of a Costa's hummingbird in my backyard. This male is flying with his tongue out.

Male Costa's perching in the mesquite.

Fledgling female northern cardinal.

She lives in my backyard.

Cactus wren was digging the soil around the trunk of the mesquite and retrieved a grub.

This is a fledgling cactus wren.

This is my nemesis bird: hooded oriole. This is a female staying as far away as possible in the mesquite tree.

This is a female juvenile pyrrhuloxia.
It is amazing to see this variety of backyard birds this late in the season. They are still cranking out eggs.
